Yoni Garden Party

36"x28"

The double pointed oval shape is an ancient symbol representing external female genitalia, the vulva. For the ancients, the "yoni" was recognized as holding the secrets of regeneration and survival. Also called a "mandorla", yonis were considered the "Gateway" through which we pass in childbirth as well as the seat of female sexual power. What was once held sacred and revered was later deliberately misconstrued as shameful in emerging patriarchies, i.e. Some religions inaccurately describe a menstruating woman to be "unclean". Many adults cannot say the anatomical words vagina or vulva out loud as these false narratives have taken hold. Even some women refuse to discuss their "periods", a healthy normal life affirming process. This piece  celebrates the "yoni" as a source of new human life and pleasure.
